Christmas Concert 2007
As FUMC Santa Rosa traditions go, this one falls into the “must do” category. Every Christmas Season, our church musicians treat us to a memorable and extraordinary concert. The highlight of our 2007 concert was a newly-scored work for chorus and chamber orchestra entitled “Magnificat,” written by the profoundly-gifted Mark Hayes, who created an inspiring celebration of Mary’s immortal words, “My soul doth magnify the Lord!” Also on the program—as counterpoint, if you will—was Bach’s Cantata #191 for Christmas Day, the only cantata Bach set in Latin. The cantata features five-part chorus, soli and chamber orchestra to the simple yet all-encompassing text of, “Glory be to the Father, and on earth peace.” In addition, we have invited some very special friends to be our guests for the two concerts. They are the acclaimed soloists Carol Menke, Chris Fritzsche, and Neal Rogers.
