Coordinator of Children’s Creative Arts Ministries
First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Santa Rosa
First United Methodist Church is in the process of enhancing its creative arts ministry, to extend our ability to share God’s love and acceptance through music, drama and other fine and performing arts with children throughout Sonoma County. This outreach ministry will provide children with Christian learning experiences and be an outlet for creative expression within an inclusive community of faith.
This staff member (in consultation with other members of the staff) will be responsible for the planning, coordination, administration and evaluation of all aspects of our creative arts programs for children. These programs will involve children in pre-Kindergarten to elementary school. The Coordinator of Children’s Creative Arts Ministries will be a catalyst in the creation of programs that will nurture and inspire young people toward Christian growth through such creative art activities as music, drama, visual and technical arts, dance, etc. This is a regular part-time exempt position that reports to the Director of Creative Arts Ministries. Evaluation of performance will be conducted by the FUMC Staff Parish Relations Committee in consultation with the staff member’s supervisor.
- Coordinate FUMC of Santa Rosa’s Children’s Creative Arts Ministries (ages pre-K through 5th grade).
- Provide weekly creative arts activities for children during regular Sunday morning worship services.
- Establish and coordinate an after-school Children’s Creative Arts Program.
- Prepare and present inspiring drama musicals at least twice seasonally (i.e., Christmas and Easter).
- Partner with the Coordinator of Children’s Ministries to support Sunday School curricular activities, including annual early-Summer Vacation Bible School.
- Recruit and encourage all children to participate in FUMC of Santa Rosa’s Creative Arts Programs.
- Interact with parents/guardians, Church committees and other adults to communicate Children’s Creative Arts Programs (dates, times, etc.) and enlist their cooperation and support.
- Maintain and manage the FUMC of Santa Rosa Children’s Creative Arts classroom.
- Collaborate with Church staff and lay volunteers to innovatively promote and expand Children’s Creative Arts opportunities at FUMC of Santa Rosa.
- Support other related duties as assigned by the Director of Creative Arts Ministries.
Quarter-time position — average of 10 hours per week
(Sundays: 9:00 AM – 12:00 Noon; Weekdays after-school hours: TBD)

- Team player able to work with a wide range of artistic abilities and styles.
- Able to motivate and engage children to participate in creative arts programs.
- Accompaniment skills like voice, keyboard, guitar or other appropriate instrument(s) desirable.
- Accomplished music and/or theater artist with at least 3-5 years of experience leading children in creative arts activities.
- Demonstrable teaching skills and classroom management procedures.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
