The Older Adult Ministry

Sharing wisdom and hope…

The Older Adult Ministry believes that the wisdom, skills, experience, and faith of older adults should be intentionally developed and fully utilized throughout life.

As a church we work for and with older adults to connect at-home families with their church through programs of monthly at-home Holy Communion, at-home visitations, quality worship services delivered at assisted living facilities, distributing conference, district and community resources, and creating valuable training support to help volunteers develop a ministry of faith helping older adults share their faith, stories, wisdom and hope.

Assisted Living Worship Services:
Second Sundays at Avalon!

Our dearly beloved Opal Shinabarger (celebrating her 95th birthday this year) is not daunted by not
being able to attend weekly Sunday Services at FUMC; instead, she has invited her church family to serve her and friends where she is living. FUMC Older Adult Ministries takes Sunday worship services to Avalon at Brush Creek, 4225 Wayvern Drive in Santa Rosa. Our church sister and fellow resident, Jane Athy (celebrating her 90th birthday this year) plays hymns on her piano in the upstairs lobby. Pat Sanborn conducts the service and Manoa Bale serves as song leader. All members and friends of our church family are invited to join in taking this service to Avalon; we will need greeters, readers, and musicians, just like any other service. Let Pat know if you would like to participate.
